Who is SHAG?

The Senior Housing Assistance Group (SHAG) is a non-profit organization and the largest provider of affordable rental apartment homes for seniors in Washington State. SHAG offers affordable senior living communities in 28 locations in the Puget Sound region, from Bellingham to Olympia, including six locations in Seattle.

Who qualifies to live at a SHAG community?

Age and income restrictions apply, but vary slightly by community. The following restrictions at SHAG’s Arrowhead Gardens are representative, however for specifics on each community, visit the Locations page.

• Age: People age 61+, or age 55+ and disabled. Each member of the household must be age 55 or older, and at least one member of the household must be either age 61 or older by the end of the current year or disabled.
• Income: Up to $36,960 of annual income for a single person and up to $42,240 of annual household income for a two-person household. No asset “spend down” is required, but income from assets is taken into account in determining total annual income.

Where are SHAG locations?

SHAG has 28 locations throughout the Puget Sound region, including our newest communities, Arrowhead Gardens in West Seattle and Victoria Park in Lake City. Our locations are near public transit hubs, retail shopping and public services.

What are typical lease terms?

The minimum lease term is 6 months. However, there are a number of lease term options available, including 6-, 12-, and 24-month leases. Please contact a leasing specialist for additional information.

Are pets allowed at the communities?

It’s been proven that pet’s foster well-being. Small pets (e.g., cats or dogs weighing 20 lbs. or less) are welcome at SHAG communities. There is a two-pet maximum per household, and a $100 pet fee per pet is due at move-in. All pets are subject to approval by management.

Do you take Section 8 vouchers?

In compliance with state and federal laws, we gladly accept Section 8 certificates and vouchers.

Am I allowed to have income to live at a SHAG community?

Absolutely. SHAG provides quality housing for people living on limited incomes. Potential residents are often surprised about the incomes allowed for living at one of our communities. Victoria Park in Lake City has a majority of units where no income restrictions apply.

If I need some assistance, can I live at SHAG?

Many SHAG residents contract with in home service providers for housekeeping and medical help. Ask the community you are interested in for a list of service providers in the area.
